Undergraduate students’ study at other institutions during their registration at HKUST must be either organized or pre-approved by the University. Upon completion of the study, students will be eligible to apply for credit transfer or course exemptions.
Applications for credit transfer or course exemptions must be submitted by students to the appropriate office(s) for approval no later than one month after resumption of study at HKUST.
Students who have committed to participate in a study program (both physical and virtual) organized by the University will see the corresponding study record in the online Credit Transfer Application System. You can use this official study record to raise new mapping requests and submit application for credit transfer.
You are strongly advised to check the Credit Transfer Database (For Institutional Courses) before initiating any applications.
Pre-approval Before Study
Students who wish to undertake studies at another institution where the studies are not organized by HKUST are required to seek approval from the major departments and schools AND register the study with the Office of Global Learning Experience (OGL) by completing the Registration of Pre-approved Self-arranged Study according to the timeline listed on MyStudyAbroad System. For details, please visit https://mystudyabroad.hkust.edu.hk/?go=preapproved_study.
Mapping and Credit Transfer
Once the registration is completed, the pre-approved study record will appear in the online Credit Transfer Application System. You can raise new mapping requests and submit application for credit transfer with this study record. Students are strongly advised to check the Credit Transfer Database (For Institutional Courses) before initiating any applications.
Students participating in cross-campus study at HKUST(GZ) are NOT required to submit any credit transfer applications. All credits taken with the course grades assigned by HKUST(GZ) MUST be transferred to HKUST, and the transfer process is automatic. Please refer to Cross-campus Study (UG) webpage for further details.
