Cross-campus Study (UG)

Cross-campus Study (UG)

ALL
Registration and Course Enrolment

Registration should normally be on a term basis. Application for extension of one more term to a maximum total duration of one year may also be considered. Undergraduate students applying for cross-campus study should have normally completed no less than two years of study in the current program prior to their planned cross-campus study. They are neither expected to go outbound for cross-campus study during the term(s) they are conducting their capstone project of their major.

Students participating in cross-campus study shall be officially registered at their home campus as active students, and the period of physical cross-campus study will be recorded on their academic transcripts.

Cross-campus study is only applicable to undergraduate students who physically enroll in course(s) offered by HKUST(GZ). During cross-campus study, undergraduate students are not allowed to take courses, virtually or physically, delivered by HKUST.

The period of cross-campus study of undergraduate students would not be counted towards the residency requirements of their degree program (2 years residency out of the 4-year normative duration). The credits attained from the host campus would neither be counted towards the minimum credits earned from the home campus as specified in the residency requirement (i.e., at least 60 credits attained from the home campus) (see Academic Regulations Governing Undergraduate Studies, section 6.3).

Tuition Fee

Undergraduate students with “Cross-Campus Study” status shall pay tuition fees to HKUST only, following prevailing HKUST policies.

Credit Transfer and Course Substitution

Students participating in cross-campus study at HKUST(GZ) are NOT required to submit any credit transfer applications. All credits taken with the course grades assigned by HKUST(GZ) MUST be transferred to HKUST, and the transfer process is automatic. The transferred course will be reflected on students’ academic transcripts of HKUST and counted towards the cumulative grade average (CGA) / graduation grade average (GGA), as appropriate. The credit transfer restrictions of the University and individual programs will not be applicable to courses taken under cross-campus study.

Students who would like to use the HKUST(GZ) course taken to fulfil specific course requirements in any program of study should apply for course substitution.

Course Exclusion and Equivalence

The course exclusion and course equivalence rules still apply to courses taken under cross-campus study.  Students may not earn credits for more than one equivalent course or any related exclusion course. Before enrolling into an HKUST(GZ) course, students should check the Class Schedule and Quota Systems for both campuses to ensure that the HKUST(GZ) course is not equivalent to or excluded from any courses they have already completed at HKUST.

Students should contact their school or major advisors if they need any advice or assistance on the cross-campus study course planning.
