Transfer of credits may be granted to students in recognition of studies completed elsewhere other than HKUST at an appropriate level as recognized by the University. For newly-admitted students, entry credits can be granted on the basis of:
1. Public Examinations
2. Post-secondary Level Courses
3. Language Proficiency
4. Admission Basis
Exam-to-course credits are normally granted automatically under the following circumstances and NO application is needed:
The examination subject has already been mapped to an equivalent HKUST course as recorded in the Credit Transfer Database (For Examinations); AND
The minimum grade/score requirement for the mapping is satisfied; AND
The examination results have already been submitted to and verified by the University
On the other hand, students may submit non-disclosed examination results or new mapping requests with detailed examination syllabus to the Academic Registry no later than one month after the commencement of the first regular term of study at HKUST.
Course-to-course credits will be granted to post-secondary level courses completed at local or/and overseas tertiary institutions prior to admission at HKUST upon application. Before initiating any application, students are strongly advised to check the approved mappings from the Credit Transfer Database (For Institutional Courses), and consult their School or major Department for advice on equivalence HKUST course. Students who intend to apply for credit transfer with post-secondary courses should apply via the online Credit Transfer Application System no later than one month after the commencement of the first regular term of study at HKUST. Students may also raise new course equivalence mappings via the same system.
HKUST Credits Taken Prior to Admission will be considered for transfer credits to the undergraduate study automatically and NO application is needed. These credits will be included in the calculation of grade averages (with full weight). If you decided not to transfer these credits, please send us a cancellation request within your first term of UG study at HKUST. HKUST credits may be taken via the following programs:
1. HKUST Summer Institute
2. Hong Kong Virtual University
3. Enhancement /Talented Programs
4. Exchange-in Programs
Students who have attained the required level of English language proficiency will be granted credits to the course LANG 1402 (previously CORE 1402) English Language for University Studies (English Communication Course in the Foundations Group of the University Common Core Curriculum). The credits are normally granted automatically if the attained results have already been submitted to and verified by the University and NO application is needed.
