Other Useful Information

Students may look up course and class information of Winter 2023-24 with the following link:

Students may refer to the FAQ for class enrollment to refresh the knowledge using the SIS for class enrollment. However some of the class enrollment rules and practices in regular terms do not apply in Winter which include:

  • Add/Drop Deadlines

  • Limit on number of Course Enrolled

  • Special Notes to final Year Students

Please refer to the sections below for details.

Add/Drop Deadlines

Add/Drop requests of Winter courses can be submitted daily (except system maintenance period from 7:30am-9:30am every morning) before add/drop deadlines of the courses.

Some courses have a higher add/drop rate in Winter than in regular terms.  There may be more students dropping their enrolled courses in Winter and the waiting students may find themselves move up the waiting list faster than they have anticipated.  Therefore, if you are waiting for a course, make sure that you check your updated class enrollment record frequently.  It is very important that you cancel the waiting requests if you do not want the changes to occur.  If you are on the waiting list of a class and you no longer want to enroll, you should cancel the request disregard your queue position on the waiting list.

Courses offered in Winter have different add/drop deadlines. If you have a pending swap request involving 2 classes of different add/drop deadlines, the swap request will be removed when the earlier deadline is reached. The original confirmed class will remain.  Please refer to the "Class Notes" in the SIS class search, or the "remarks" bubble on the "Class Schedule & Quota" webpage for the add/drop deadline of individual course.

Students should allow sufficient processing time for the System to handle their add/drop requests.  Completion of an add/drop process depends on a lot of factors such as system loading.  Please avoid delaying the submission of your add/drop requests to the last minute at closing of add/drop.  According to the University academic regulations, requests for adding/dropping courses after the add/drop period will not be accepted.

Limit on number of Courses Enrolled

A student is allowed to enroll for only ONE COURSE during the assigned class enrollment period.  The limit on the number of course enrolled will be adjusted on 29 November 2023.  From 29 November 2023 onwards, the maximum number of courses a student is allowed to enroll will be THREE.

Enrollment of more than three courses will only be considered for students graduating in Winter 2023-24.  For such cases, endorsement from major departments will be required.

Special Notes to Final Year Students

Students who have applied for graduation in Fall Term 2023-24 are normally NOT allowed to continue registration in Winter, unless special approval is granted.  Please contact the ARO if you have any questions.

Student's Responsibility

Students should be responsible for seeking academic advice, checking up academic regulations and taking appropriate enrollment actions.  Courses/Classes that are inappropriately enrolled may not be counted towards graduation requirements and will lead to failure to fulfill degree requirements.  De-registration of courses violating university regulations may take place after add/drop period.
