Your registration information in the HKUST Card

Upon continuation of study at the University for the new academic year, a student’s registration information stored in the chip of the HKUST Card will need updating. The following are the major fields in a student record that will be updated each year/term.

Year of Study

The year of study of a regular student will be updated at commencement of each academic year.

Program / School / Department Codes & Mode of Study

Students who have changed their program and/or mode of study will have the information updated at commencement of the effective term.

Card Validity Period

The chip in the HKUST Card bears an internal validity period that is determined by the registration status of the student in an academic year. The validity period of the card has been pre-set to expire on 15 September 2024. This validity period will be extended automatically for one year.

Steps to update your HKUST Card

To update the registration information into the chip of your Card, please carry out the following procedures at the Virtual Barn Workstation or PC in Computer Barns equipped with smart card reader:

  1. Insert / place your student card to the card reader and log on to My Studies via the "Student Intranet" with MS Edge browser.
  2. Select the ‘Manage My HKUST Card’ option and then activate the ‘Update data on card’ function. You will need to key in your card PIN to complete the updating. [At the time of issue, your date of birth (in yyyymmdd format) was selected as the value of the card PIN. You should have changed this value to a PIN of your own choice when you collected the Card. In the event that you have forgotten your card pin, you can reset the PIN online.]
  3. Upon completion, you are advised to view the data on card again to verify the information.
