Definition revised from 'Good Performance' to 'Marginal Performance' from Fall 1999-2000 |
# |
Ceased to be used from Fall 1997-98 |
E : |
A student receiving the Conditional Failure (E) grade has an opportunity to take a supplementary examination. The grade for a supplementary examination is normally D or F. Students who fail to attend the supplementary examination will receive an F grade for the course. This grade is used in undergraduate courses only. |
F : |
A failed course (graded F) cannot be credited towards a degree. If a failed course is repeated, the new grade obtained after repeating the course will replace the previous F grade in the calculation of CGA and GGA. |
AU : |
The Audited (AU) grade will be assigned when an auditing student has completed, to the satisfaction of the instructor, the conditions established at registration as an auditor. |
DI, PA : |
The DI and PA grades are used only in courses that are approved to be graded by the “Distinction/Pass/Fail” grading system and that are so indicated in the Academic Calendar. |
DN, CR, PS : |
The DN, CR and PS grades can only be used in field experience courses that are taught by the Hong Kong Institute of Education and graded by the “Distinction/Credit/Pass/Fail” grading system. |
I : |
An Incomplete (I) grade is used when work is necessarily delayed through no fault of the student such as a medical problem or an equipment breakdown. This grade must be converted to a regular grade at least one working day before the start of the following semester; otherwise it is converted to F. |
IP : |
The In Progress (IP) designation ceased to be used from Fall 1997-98. It was used to indicate that a student had not met the University's required standard of English and had to proceed to LANG002 or LANG003. This grade was used in undergraduate courses only. |
P : |
The Pass, Ungraded (P) grade is given for courses which are indicated in the course description in the Academic Calendar that they will be graded as such. |
PP : |
When progress in thesis or project work is satisfactory but not scheduled for completion at the end of a semester, the PP grade will be used. The PP grade may be given in two-part or three-part project courses which are so indicated in the Academic Calendar. It will be converted to the grade given at the end of the final part of the course. It is also used at the end of the first semester of a two-semester undergraduate course. In this case, the PP grade is left unchanged when the final grade is recorded at the end of the second semester. |
W : |
The Withdrawal without Penalty (W) grade is given when a student withdraws from a course after the add-drop period. |
HP,P,LP,U,Y : |
The HP, P, LP, U and Y grades are for use exclusively on courses of the Executive Master of Business Administration and the International Executive Master of Business Administration programs offered by the School of Business and Management. An Unsatisfactory (U) grade cannot be credited toward a degree. An Incomplete (Y) grade is used when there is initial delay in coursework. This grade must be converted to a regular grade within a specified deadline, otherwise it will be converted to U. This grading system was adopted with effect from the Winter Session of 2006-07. |
